In fact, during hypnosis, you are in complete control. You hear and perceive everything, and you remember after being hypnotized what took place. 

What is hypnosis or hypnotherapy?


Hypnosis is a state of focused concentration
, the kind many of us experience on a daily basis.  When you’re relaxed and your concentration is so strong that you don’t hear the dog barking next door or notice that the sun has gone down, you’re in a light hypnotic state.  

Most of us enter hypnotic states every day, like when you’re so absorbed in a book or movie that you don’t notice someone calling your name. 

William J. Bryan, the founder of the American Institute of Hypnosis, writes that the hypnotic state produces 3 things: “(1) an increased concentration of the mind, (2) an increased relaxation of the body, and (3) an increased susceptibility to suggestion.” 

The subconscious mind becomes open and suggestible during this state of relaxed and focused concentration. That means we can use it to help the mind discard habitual but unproductive thought patterns. 

We can replace those old thought patterns and habits with new, more productive thoughts and behaviors–ones you consciously choose to employ. And the best part is, these new thought patterns are tailored for your success and continue long after you come out of hypnosis.

Your conscious mind knows all about the changes you want to make. But sometimes it’s the subconscious mind that holds you back and keeps those changes just out of reach. 

With hypnosis, we get your subconscious mind on board with what your conscious mind is already aiming for. When these two parts of your mind are aligned, you stop struggling with that push-pull feeling. Making an intentional change then comes so much more naturally.

Energy Work for Wellness


Another powerful modality for positive change is Classical Chinese Medicine, also called Advanced Acupuncture. This is less about your mind than hypnosis is, and more about your energy, like with Reiki or Chakra Balancing.

Acupuncture as most people know it is the practice of placing fine needles at certain points along the body to activate energy flow (or Qi–pronounced “chee”) along the body's meridians. 

While Modern Acupuncture uses only 12 of these meridians (or channels), Advanced Acupuncture uses all 68. This allows practitioners to access and treat the root causes of whatever is troubling you.

Until recently, Western cultures generally didn’t accept acupuncture as a legitimate, effective practice in healing. But within the past couple of decades, even the World Health Organization (WHO) and National Institutes of Health (NIH) have come to recognize acupuncture as an effective or therapeutic form of treatment for nearly 100 different conditions.

Fear Not, No Needles Here


Despite the term Advanced Acupuncture, there are no needles used in my practice. In traditional and modern acupuncture, needles serve to focus an intention at particular points, but they’re not necessary. Intention is a powerful tool, and deliberately focusing on select channels can be surprisingly effective.

When you receive a therapeutic energy treatment from me, first we talk about what it is you’d like to change about your life. Then I select the energy channels that will be the most influential in supporting you to meet your particular goals.

I then treat–or “balance”–these channels, and your Qi follows. No needles, no touch necessary in Classical Chinese Medicine.

Clients report this form of energy work is an extremely effective way to clear old patterns, let go of traumas held in the body, resolve physical symptoms, and much more.

Can You Treat Someone From a Distance?


Absolutely! You don’t have to brave the weather or deal with stressful traffic to reap the benefits of this therapeutic and relaxing energy treatment. A comfortable place to lie down (your couch or a bed are perfect) and a wifi connection are all you need.

What to Expect During Hypnosis or Energy Work


The first time we meet, whether in my office or over Zoom, we’ll have a relaxed conversation about how I work with clients and what experiences have brought you to seek treatment. We’ll discuss your goals and how this treatment can help you personally. Then we’ll schedule your treatment sessions.

Generally, we’ll do three separate sessions (not including the consultation). Most people find this is the sweet spot for effective treatment, and we expect to see a real shift within three sessions. Occasionally a client may need more or fewer, depending on the issue. Compared with traditional forms of treatment like talk therapy, the time commitment is minimal.

What Happens During Hypnosis?


As you recline in an anti-gravity chair, your body feels both weightless and fully supported in a comfortable, neutral position. This helps minimize the distraction of physical discomforts while I guide you into a hypnotic state using what you might think of as a guided meditation to relax the muscles of the body. 

Then I use guided imagery to help bring your subconscious into alignment with your conscious mind using suggestions and visualizations we decided on together. At the close of the session, I gently count you out of hypnosis and you are fully present.

What Happens During Classical Chinese Medicine Energy Work?


For Classical Chinese Medicine treatments, you’ll want to dress comfortably–you’ll be sitting in a comfortable chair or lying down and relaxing for most of the session. Through diagrams and demonstrations, I’ll show you where on the body the energy channels we’re working on are located. 

I suggest certain affirmations for you to repeat to yourself with each channel, but after you say them to yourself a few times you’re welcome to let your mind wander and just unwind. I do the work at this point, and you can even take a nap!

You may feel some tingling along the energy channels as I treat them, or you may feel nothing. Either way is normal and does not affect the results of the treatment.

How Long Does a Session Last and How Much Does It Cost?

Hypnosis:

The first hypnosis session lasts about an hour and a half.  Each subsequent session is about an hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes long. 

Hypnosis initial session: $180
Hypnosis follow-up sessions: $150 per session

Classical Chinese Medicine Energy Treatment:

After the consultation, each energy work session lasts from one hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes.

I’m Elana Kogan, the Certified Consulting Hypnotist behind Wellness Through Hypnosis. Though my first passion was in building stronger and healthier communities, I have always been interested in wellness. One day I became aware of a concept that would pave the way for wellness to become much more than an interest in my life.

A trusted family friend, who happened to be a physician, introduced me to the concept of hypnosis and what it could do for people in a therapeutic way. After my initial skepticism, it sounded intriguing, so I looked into it. Before I knew it, I was completely fascinated and dove in head first.

When I experienced the transformative powers of hypnosis myself, I knew this was something incredible that I wanted to share with others.

Now I combine my passion for promoting good health for all with the amazing power of the mind in Wellness Through Hypnosis. But that’s only the first half of how I can help you on your wellness journey.

More recently, a world-renowned acupuncturist I was seeing introduced me to Classical Chinese Medicine. Its effectiveness astonished me. I enrolled in her training and mentorship intensive and learned how to apply focused intent on specific channels to treat all sorts of physical and emotional challenges.

Practicing both hypnosis and energy work, I now work with clients on a variety of issues such as weight control, stress reduction, mindset, and trauma release.  My greatest reward is helping people to overcome long-standing personal challenges and to take control of their health and well-being.
